Since 15 June 2026 at 10:00, passenger-car tolls can be paid before reaching the border on e-tarifgiurgiu.ro or in the eTarifGiurgiuPod app.
What changes at the toll booths
There are eight lanes at the ACI Giurgiu exit. Two are reserved for drivers who have paid online.

You only need the registration number. Pay at least three minutes before entering the control area.

Pay at least three minutes before entering the control area. Below this interval, the system may not find your payment.
You can buy one crossing or a bundle of 20 crossings.
Validity: 12 months from the purchase date.
Your account shows the available balance for the registration number and transaction history.
Recognition uses the registration number. If no valid payment is found, the barrier will not lift.
Incorrect data is not refundable. Check the registration number carefully before paying.
Unused crossings cannot be transferred or refunded.

Bulgaria accepts online payment through the Customs Agency e-Portal for passenger cars leaving Bulgaria, with up to 8+1 seats, at a toll of €2.
Pay the toll for your return journey
Useful when returning on a busy weekend and you want to avoid the toll-booth queue in Ruse.
The Bulgarian Customs Agency portal and bgtoll.bg are official platforms. Troco.ro links directly to them and charges no commission.

Bridge Day — free crossing
Every year, passenger cars with up to 8+1 seats crossing from Giurgiu to Ruse are exempt from the toll.
The exemption only applies on the Romanian side. On your return, the standard €2 Bulgarian toll applies.

Alternatives when Giurgiu is congested
- Calafat–Vidin Bridge (DN56/E79) — the other road bridge over the Danube towards Bulgaria.
- Ferries: Zimnicea, Turnu Măgurele, Bechet and Ostrov. Check the operator’s timetable before travelling — they do not run around the clock.
- Border crossings in Constanța County: Lipnița, Dobromir, Negru Vodă and Vama Veche. Check the current opening hours before departure.

It is valid for 12 months from the purchase date, both for a single crossing and a bundle of 20. After that date it expires and is not refundable.
When is the Giurgiu bridge crossing free?
On 20 June, Bridge Day, for passenger cars with up to 8+1 seats, only from Giurgiu to Ruse and only on the Romanian side.
Which currency can I use on the Bulgarian side?
Pay in euro or by card; Romanian lei are not accepted. You can also pay online through the Bulgarian Customs Agency portal.
